FieldTwin Operate 9.0

FieldTwin Operate is a read-only workspace for the people who run the field rather than design it. Operate opens the same sub-project as the Designer, strips out everything that edits, and rebuilds the way in around one thing: the tag number you already have in your hand.

Current Version

The current version is FieldTwin Operate 9.0 — the first release of FieldTwin Operate.

9.0 — September 2026

Overview

FieldTwin Operate ships complete in version 9.0, not in stages. Everything described below is included in this release.

Operate was developed between February and September 2026 and requires the Operation module, licensed separately and enabled per account.

There is no prior version history for Operate. It does not appear in the FieldTwin 8.2, 8.1, 8.0, 7.1 or 7.0 release notes.

The idea

An operations user arrives with a tag number, not a position in a tree.

Operate replaces the Designer's eighteen panels and dockable layout with one search and a fixed panel row. This means you can tell a colleague "search the tag, open Documents" and it works on their screen exactly as it does on yours.

Operate uses the same sub-project as the Designer, not a snapshot or a copy. A change made in the Designer appears in Operate on the next reload.

Getting in

Getting around

The 3D view

What is drawn

  • Layers — Toggle individual GIS layers, wells and point clouds, or toggle an entire list at once.
  • Infinite seabed — Turn off the nominal seabed drawn beyond the survey when examining bathymetry.
  • Hidden items — A searchable list contains everything you have hidden individually and provides the way to restore those items.
  • Annotation clutterHide distant annotations reduces annotations far from the camera.

Visibility

Layer visibility and individually hidden objects are independent. An individually hidden object remains hidden when its class is shown again.

Viewport settings

Viewport settings are personal to your session. They are not stored in the design and are not visible to other users.

Available settings include:

  • Scene — Show water, show the 3D grid on supported surfaces, show outlines below seabed and bathymetry, show the scale bar and show the compass.
  • Smart models — Show smart model visibility controls for individual parts and show integration tag outlines using status colours supplied by integrations.
  • Comfort — Zoom to selection when switching views, adjust zoom speed and annotation size, and select a theme.

Camera, cutting and measuring

  • Camera — Zoom to extent, switch between 2D and 3D views, use the flythrough camera with the mouse and W, A, S, D, and play the design's Animation where available.
  • View points — Jump directly to cameras saved in the Designer. View points cannot be created in Operate.
  • Schematic view — Switch to a schematic when one exists in the design.
  • Clip plane — Clip the model along X, Y or Z, move the clipping plane, reverse the retained half, and clear clip planes.
  • Measure — Measure distance and bearing, perform three-point angle measurements, and clear measurements.
  • Connection points — Edit or reset where connections meet an asset.

Clip planes

Clipping only affects the view. It does not modify the model or add objects to the hidden-items list. Measurements can still reference geometry that has been clipped from view.

System highlighting

Flow animation

Flow animation represents direction, not flow rate.

Time Series

Reading time-series data

Gaps represent missing data, not zero. A flat line can represent steady operation or a dead sensor.

Take care when comparing mixed units, different sample rates, autoscaled axes and time zones.

Integrations

Point Cloud Comparison

Point Cloud Comparison shows how the seabed has changed between surveys.

Select two surveys, draw a boundary and compute the comparison to:

The comparison uses the same jobs, rasters and calculations as the Designer. A result computed in one mode is visible in the other.

Because Operate does not have a create toolbar, the Point Cloud Comparison panel provides its own drawing tools for boundaries and profile lines.

What Operate deliberately will not do

Read-only by design

These are design decisions, not missing features. Read-only operation is what makes Operate suitable for users who are not designers.

Development record

Operate has one release, so there is no version-by-version release history before 9.0. The milestones below represent the development history leading to the first release.
